I am not the greatest with hardware. Is it possible for Octane to use external graphics cards on laptops? Specifically the Alienware Amplifier. From what I am seeing the amplifer (external housing) takes over for the graphics card in your laptop. If it takes the place of the card in your laptop can octane still utilize it or is it no different than only running one graphics card?

You might want to check out https://egpu.io
It's a very supportive community with tons of useful information.

Yes, external graphics hardware can work very well with Octane, although I don't specifically have experience with Alienware Amplifier. In our office we have a mix of AKITIO nodes and Aorus boxes that do the job.

For the best performance, you'll want the external box dedicated to Octane rendering, and the internal video hardware handling the rest of the non-Octane UI on your screen and any external monitors. There are a number of threads about EGPU usage on this forum as well.
