rc7 has the same issue, and i found the problem maybe relate to displacement,if i apply the material to only one object ,it is OK,while apply to all vines, render failure.

however,when i creating it,there was no problem

VRAM always about 1GB,no problem with it

I tried your scene here on a 1080 and it seems to render fine, but it's very slow. So maybe the TDR timeout of windows is kicking in and it may be worth increasing the TdrDelay following this procedure: viewtopic.php?p=330198#p330198
And don't forget to reboot Windows for the changes to have an effect.

Let me know if that helped or not.

ahhh it works, but very very slow, even mouse cursor frozen when rendering.. but why so slow? seem it is not a very heavy scene...?

Out of curiosity I tried your scene on the slowest machine we've got, a Mac with a single GTX980 running R19.068 and Octane 4 RC7. Obviously, drivers will be different on Apple hardware. It seems to render just fine, though, and not at all slowly, considering the hardware. No problems with interface slowness, and such, either.

That's just to say, for what it's worth, there doesn't seem to be any problem with the scene.

that is interesting~thanks for your testing~

The interesting thing is that the scene renders really fast if you set the time slider to 0, but gets suddenly very slow from frame 67 - 69. I have no idea why that is, but we will investigate it in the coming days to check if there is anything we can do about it.

Whoah, I totally missed that. I have to revise/update my former post; I must have just been messing around with the first few frames where everything is snappy. There's something very non-linear going on here. I did a 1/4 res render of the sequence and random frames take 5 times longer than all their companions, and the displacement amount jumps around, but the sequence completed. (Full res always fails with a 702 error after a while, but not predictably.) That one little growing vine really shouldn't have that much of an impact on the render speed, to be sure, but it looks like it's that old bugaboo, Displacement. I don't think it likes to be on geometry that's changing/growing via animated sweep. It totally freaks out on certain frames, going from subtle to porcupine in a single frame in my low res render, even though there are no displacement settings with keyframes. Drop the displacement, everything seems happy and renders fine and fast at full res.

Hope that's helpful.
