is it possible to drive the SSS with an image, I have played around with the scattering/medium absorption and dropping an image texture there but scratching head at the moment...

any pointers appreciated

Hi,
unfortunately it is no more possible since v1, when the Fake shadow option has been added.
You need to use the transmission channel in the Specular material to use a texture image, but it cannot affects the volume distribution inside the object, but only the energy of light that enters in the object.
Hope it helps.

Hey Beppe,

thanks for the reply. Good to know.

This is exactly what I want, I may have phrased my question wrong.
I have a texture that I want to use and have SSS, the image doesn't need to drive the SSS per se as I want an even SSS the but have the image texture be the colour/diffuse.

grazie mille, ciao :)

Great!
You can use a Color Correction node to power up the texture over 1 in Transmission, if you need more light to come in.
Happy GPU Rendering,

Hi,
is it still the fact that one cannot drive the distribution of ss scattering with a texture in Octane 4? Driving the sss with a texture is at the core of every skin shader...could that be done by blending several different sss materials?
