I feel like you are not looking at the composite image but simply the results of the denoiser:

What are the options in this drop down menu?

The options in this drop-down menu should show any pass you have selected in the passes tab. Just like in Cycles.

in standalone octanedenoisebeauty is the full final beauty pass denoised.

this essentially should be the same.

Forget the workaround - didn't work. Everything is totally random at this point. Best to wait for the next release.

It looks like the current beta has issues exporting renders and render passes.

Let's wait for the next one which should solve this fundamental problem.
