i am having occasional moments where the viewport is stuck updating ("please wait while...") during which i cannot close the render window and cannot interact with C4D.
i have to use the task manager to shut down the c4d and loose any unsaved progress. this happened quite a bit with all of the octane version and made me lost hours upon hours of work.

C4D R18.057, dual titan 1080 GPU.
is there any way to close off octane while its updating or atleast have control over c4d so i can save before shutting down?

when the octane view starts taking too long and i want to close the window, i get the message "please wait while octane has finished updating" or something similar.

It's due high amount of triangles. Try to press "Reset" button on LV.

for some reason my last reply few days ago wasnt posted.

the same scene will be refreshing and updating well and then all of the sudden it wont. i pause it (reset it) and close the LV and reopen it. same thing - wont refresh.
save my progress and have to reset c4d 18 to continue working.

all i was doing is playing with light values and position, no new geometry fwiw.

Check Script/Console window for any cuda error. Like Render Failures

i actually had deleted most of geometry and still had the issue. it seems to be due to non octame materials being used in the scene ( i was working on the look and testing so i am yet to make octane materials for the assets)
i suppose its user error in that case.

I have the same issue, when i switch projects or when one render is finished, EVERY project even with a cube is stuck on updating. The only solution is to close the project and then close the lv, then i open LV once again and it works. This trick only works on windows, on mac you cant close LV even if project is closed. This is annoying.

I am having this problem too. Across numerous different scenes.

LV and PV work fine the first couple of sends, then randomly will just get stuck 'updating'. I've left it for a while and it never loads the scene. It seems to be happening even on light scenes so not a 'big scene' issue.

It always requires a forced restart, though doesn't crash C4D in my case. I can still save the scene, but can't close the PV or reset octane, it's just stuck.

I'll try and grab the log next time, but I don't think it lists any errors.

Sorry I can't provide any more info at the moment.
