Logo On Bottle

I have a white ceramic bottle that has a printed logo on it. I have created a material for the bottle, and now want to add the logo on top. The logo is slightly embossed.

I have used c4d material stacking and the material for the bottle surface is set to UVW projection. I have added the logo as another material and used an image in the opacity channel to mask the logo. This material is set to flat projection.

Everything looks good, but I now want to add a small emboss to the logo. I can't seem to work this out, I've tried using a bump in the logo material, and I've tried using displacement, nothing seems to be working.

What would be the best method of achieving this with Octane?

  • Create an Octane Mix Material.
Create two other materials, one for the bottle, and one for the logo. Make sure that you have the UVs set the way you want for the logo. If necessary, you can use a UV Projection and Transform node on the logo image map node.
Add both of these materials to the Octane Mix Material node.
Create a mask for where you want the logo to appear.
Pipe that mask, via an image node, into the amount port on the Octane Mix Material.
Apply the Octane Mix Material to the object.
    Done.

Thanks, got it working after a LOT of trial and error. Such as simple thing to do with the native c4d renderer. I wish Octane could just stack materials and projections in the same way as c4d.

The Mix Material is very powerful, and not so complex to set up, in my opinion, but there are other solutions if the Mix Material is not suitable for you, like:
C4D Material Stacking
or the new Uber shader of 3.08test 6:
Uber material: Simplified workflow for mix material system with embedded materials

Hmmm I'm thinking I maybe need to buy a full licence and stop my subscription, so I can have access to all the new goodies!

When will 3.08 finally be released?
