Linear, RGB, Octane, and photoshop

Hi,

I know this has been brought up a number of times in the forum but I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. I am aware that octane is in linear color space and photoshop is in srgb. I am also aware that this means the colors do not translate directly when copying the values from one program to another, but I am hoping someone maybe has found a work around.

I am working on an involved project that requires me to paint complex textures in photoshop and then render them out while maintaining very strict color accuracy. As a result the variation that happens when I bring these textures into octane is not acceptable or usable. Is there any way to work in photoshop so that the colors when brought into octane correspond exactly?

Any insight into how I might resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated

It looks like don't have a camera tag setup, do you have camera imager in your render settings?
I was able to render with a color match to the colors you specified.

Try rendering this and see if you get a match.

Thanks for the reply!

I've been looking into my photoshop setting and I noticed that selecting view/Proof Color makes a big difference in my colors matching my render result in the octane live view. Also when I render a result out of octane and it is converted back to sRGB space (with proof colors off) in photoshop it no longer matches the original swatch if both have Proof Colors turned off.

What does your photoshop work space look like?

Thanks!

Yes, I was in sRGB working space for some reason. Been driving me crazy. Back in Adobe 1998 and everything seems to be working correctly now, hah.

Aoktar,

Can you explain the best practice method of using linear colors in Octane? Usually I grab a color from Photoshop and plug in the RGB values into C4D. Is there a better way to select colors in Photoshop using a linear mode? I don’t know what the typical Octane sliders for RGB correspond to. I always go into the color and pick it from there. I rarely pick colors using Octane’s sliders.

Thanks! Any advice that may help color accuracy is appreciated.

Cheers,
Ronny
