unable to render file

Hi,
I have a file that simply will not render with Octane. I'm left thinking there isn't anything that could be behind this apart from a bug, as the scene is quite simple. It's a plain scene with some geometry, a dome light, and a diffuse material linked to a 2k texture that is animating. I open up the scene, hit the live viewer and wait, and nothing happens. I have subdivision surfaces on which I tried taking off and replacing with Octane object tags using subdivision, did not help. I removed the subdivision surfaces altogether, also did not help. I tried rendering without a material and copy pasting everything into a fresh document, still no luck.
To confirm my suspicions, I've tried rendering the scene with the same hardware (x2 1080 ti, x1 1070, OSX 10.12.6, 64 GB ram, C4D R17) using Redshift. Redshift renders the scene in 2 seconds in the IPR, which is what I was also expecting Octane to do given it is relatively simple geometry wise. Would appreciate any help as I'm really trying to get this rendered. I can send or upload a scene file if needed. When I try to render the scene forcibly through render queue, my system runs out of application memory and crashes.
