The file open dialog for the Alpha image map type doesn't allow TGA files to be selected/opened. However, if you copy/paste a TGA file from an RGB image map into the Alpha image map slot, it works just fine.

Please include TGA's in the allowable file types for Alpha image maps.

I personally would not know why TGA is not allowed, same thing in SA. I will send your request to developers.
