Difficulty with render layers

Hi,

I'm working on a project where I need to remove the HDRI from the background. It works great, except that I have some glass in front of the background and am fairly clueless on how to get the HDRI background removed from behind the 'glass.'

In the attached image, you can see white areas behind the glass that have no alpha, but the areas that do are good.

Is there any way to just make the HDRI NOT be visible at all to the camera? That would be ideal.

Any info on how to handle this situation would be great.

Thanks,

Jim

Hi Jim,
you can duplicate the Environment node, change it from Primary to Visible mode, and disable the Backplate and Refraction option.
In this way, the primary environment will be used for lighting only.

Thanks, but I'm not sure how to set that up or what you mean?

Right now, I'm using a Sky Object, not an Environment Object.
Are you saying I need to have 2 Environment Objects in my project?

I tried duplicating my Sky Object and applying the settings you suggested, but it didn't work.

Any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks,

Jim

Leave HDRI as is now and plug in Texture environment (black color or white depends on what you want in your alpha) into the "visible environment" input.

OK, I'm not seeing any options for color under "Visible Environment."

I just need 'alpha' there or some way to show a different color/texture that doesn't affect the lighting of the scene.

This has been really confusing.

You can see what my alpha is doing by the attached image.

Hi reelinspirations,
if you need the alpha also on the glass plate, you need to enable the **Affect alpha** option in the Common tab of the specular/glass material:
