For my honours project at uni I've done a short film, which I rendered using Octane.

how did you render the smoke effect at the end, with octane ?

They were rendered with a plugin for 3Ds Max called FumeFX. I don't think particle effects are possible to render with Octane

Can you use FumeFX with Octane?
And if yes do you apply octane defuse texture for smoke, clouds and dust?

cool down folks, the original post was way back in 2011.
looks to be rendered separately and then combined in post
