Hi, the collada import is announced after 1.xx release.
The export settings for LW and other 3d software is in the manual, you could download here:

prometheus wrote:I know how to export out to octane from lightwave, but there are issues with vertex normals when you export from solidworks to deep explorer and loading in to lightwave for adding subdivision parts and then export out again..something happens within that obj export and vertex normals that crashes octane all the time upon trying to load
objects from lightwave alone.. it´s no problem, but our workflow needs to go from solidworks to deep exploration and then to lightwave.
scenefiles have been sent and discussions have been made between me and refractive, but I haven´t got any feedback on what goes wrong.
That´s why I hoped I could try out the collada format
I was also hoping to see how easy applying materials through a library would be..
My suggestion to releasing a demo, would be to have it fully functional as much as possible, I don´t mind watermarks in renders, or limited size.
If I can´t evaluate octane to see if it could work for us with product renders, then we simply wouldn´t invest in it as the current state is.
Today lightwave alone works quite good for us, but I was looking for even faster solutions.

Sorry i don't use any of the programs you use.
I do however use a route from Autocad to 3dMax and then out to Octane.
I always recheck and clean my mesh in Max along with checking my Vertex normals and UV mapping and add materials in max before it goes out to Octane as it's my last link in the chain.
Can you do the same in Lightwave before sending to Octane,as it seems to be your last link in the chain before your scene hits octane.
Just a thought.

prometheus wrote:I don´t think there´s anything I really can check or change with these scenes, If I simply export out from solidworks to deep exploration in obj format, that will read just
fine in octane, if I import it in to lightwave in between and export out without any changes, octane crashes anyway, there´s no options to change when exporting the obj format in lightwave.
a workaround would be to export our solidworks files to deep exploration, but creating parts that I need in lightwave (subpatches cushions) and load those parts back in
to deep exploration and replace parts within that and then export out the obj file solely from deep exploration, I got that to work anyway, but preferably I would
work within lightwave to replace parts there.
Note it can´t just be the replacement of part´s that is causing the crash, as I mentioned a clean export out from lightwave without changes in the solidworks-deep exploration obj will cause crash anyway.
object´s created directly within lightwave without vertex normals are working without problems.
I believe It is something with the obj exporter within lightwave when dealing with vertex normals that is not right.
Uv maps are not used
Michael
have you tried as an experiment by downloading Blender and running your Deep exploration files through the exporter plug in that uses instead out to Octane instead of Through Lightwave?
It would not cost you anything to try out.Just a bit of time.

Yep, looks like you'll have to use that approach for now, unless anyone else on the forum can suggest something.
Sorry I could not be of any more help.

would have been nice if they could have released a demo version matching the latest release with collada, that is what I was
looking for, if it could have worked better?
For now till I get the chance to test collada or until the obj issue is solved, I will skip octane and continue with lightwave.
the scene case regarding this was sent some time ago for refractive software to test, but I don´t know if they have had the time to look in to it
or know how to solve it.
Michael
Regarding Collada: Sorry, but there is currently no Collada support in Octane. I.e. you have to convert your geometry to OBJ/MTL files at the moment.
Regarding your test scene: I can't remember, that we received a test scene from you. Could you please resend it? Thanks.
Cheers,
Marcus

prometheus wrote:Ohh..by the way, what do you mean there´s no collada support? in the features index page of octane, under file formats there is??
Or is it not yet finished or only not available in demo version?
The items on that page list the features that will be included with the 1.0 Final version (the current version is still a Beta). Items marked with an asterisk (*) are not yet completed.

Hi Michael.
Yes, we received your scene. We just didn't have time to look at it yet.

Marcus

Well...Im back!
Apparently my account may have been deleted by mistake or something? I couldn´t log in and had to recreate the account,
so all my posts in these forums are gone, except from the quotes from others.
So now we have no full story on the issues/topic that I started
