I have a still car scene where the camera and car are static but have the scene moving to create motion blur which is working fine - and looks very nice too.
I then animated some rotation on the tyres/wheels to try and get some motion blur but it doesn't appear, I fear I am making a schoolboy mistake as I am quite new to OR
Any pointers here appreciated

Hi,
assuming from your signature that you are working in c4d octane, did you add an object tag to the rotating wheels?
Could you share some screenshots of your settings?
