hair and fur material

Hi,

using standard hair and fur inside 3DSmax I'm having problems with applying a material. I can see the hair if I set 'geometry' in effects but it always renders grey or it take on the colour from the RGB map of the object it sprouts from.

However if I try to apply an octane gradient texture to the root or tip color then max hangs. any tips?

Hi Stir,
attached hair and fur with spline and geometry using gradient texture node.
Maybe I'm wrong workflow, I did a lot of tests but I can not handle W coordinates.
It looks like Octane Render does not read hair and fur UVW map and hair and fur does not seem to assign UVW map either by exporting to .abc or polygons.
I will try to solve the issue by talking to developers.

I get the same problem. Got a wonderul fluffy cat model ut its fur doensnt render with its diffuse texture to tint the fur. :(

Ideas?

Simple hair and fur WSM in 3dsmax18. I tested back and forth and sometimes even the whole scene disappears.

You need the file?

yes, let's try; even if w-coordinates with hair and fur does not seem to work.

When will it get fixed? It's such a basic feature using a texture to tint fur. :-((

The old Normalmap display bug also never got fixed. Only wor around. Butit isn't a good solution when I load up old scenes. Had hunderets of scenes coming from a web-configurator and all normalmaps are messed up. Tedious work...and old bugs migrating from version to version..

Octane does not seem to work with hair and fur yet. I tried converting to splines but it does not seem to work too.
I was thinking of using Octane istance color map and I think it could work. I will send this issue to developers, I hope they will solve it asap.
About Normalmap issue, you should activate "fix invalid material normal" in the Octane Global preference > Main setting.
