Hey there,

I'm thinking about upgrade my mobile work-situation.

Currently I'm on a cintiq companion first generation which is good for many things, like z-brush sketching and photoshop stuff. But I need something that I can run Octane on. Is there anyone here that can recommend me a good mobile setup? Was researching external gpu cases but there is nothing compatible with my cintiq. Not what I know about anyways. Saw that wacom have a new mobile computer wtih a NVIDIA Quadro M1000M 4GB GDDR5. Anyone tested this with Octane? Maybe it's better to by a good laptop and find an external gpu case and use an drawing tablet....

A Quadro M2000M scores a lowly 32 in OctaneBench... maybe M1000M is weaker yet?....

For comparison, a 1080Ti scores 185, a 980Ti = 134, 780Ti = 91... and a 580 = 54...

I've had slot of success with the Lenovo Yoga.

The Yoga 720 15" is my current fav;
Wacom digitiser, can use it with an active pen (bamboo)
I7-7700HQ, PCIe ssd, 16gb RAM, gtx 1050 (OB 40)

That's really good information, thanks. Its little bit to slow for doing long renderings but maybe to do tests and then send to the cloud...
Trying to figure out if Wacom supports thunderbolt 3. If so I can use the Razer Core with a GTX 1080 for more heavy renderings. That would be a very versatile setup i think. Both mobile and semi stationary ....

If you're talking about ORC, that could get pricey... If I'm not mistaken, I think some folk use remote apps and do their rendering on their workstations (which would need to remain on back at HQ, obviously) while on the road. Even from tablets. So maybe that can be a partial solution?...

Yea I'm using Team Viewer to monitor my stationary computer with a titan card righ now. The flip side though is that it is very sluggish and not very intuitive to do render setups and tests.


Wacom just got back to me saying that the new mobile studio is thunder bolt three compatible so that is true it opens up for external gpu case rendering..
If someone out there has experience with the quadro M1000M and if you think it is enough to do render setups and tests on it let me know.

I'd be cautious about the Thunderbolt 3 compatible info. from Wacom.

I see a Mini Display port in the tech specs... (which looks just like a thunderbolt port) but is only for monitor display and not thunderbolt ready.)

Hope you are right that cause that would be great. (I have an older model and it is display port only) It is strange they do not mention it on the web site also.
