Akito eGPU + Macbook Pro 13" (2016)

Anyone have experience using an eGPU with one of the latest Macbook Pros? I have a 13" 2016 Macbook pro with 4 USB C ports, and I'm considering moving over to and eGPU and running my GTX 1080Ti through TB3. Thoughts? Does something similar like this work currently with C4D + Octane?

Hi dotcommer,
it should work like other eGPU solutions:

The not perfect stability comes from the fact that eGPU is not directly supported by the system, and it is necessary to modify some kext files.
Hopefully, High Sierra should have a better support for this kind of solutions... fingers crossed ;)

At home I built for my daughter an egpu including a Asus 1080ti inside the Akitio node linked to a macbook pro 15 inch from early 2011 and it works perfectly with C4D and octane ... So you should have no problem at all with a macbook pro 2016 ...

We've been testing the Akitio Node with Octane/C4D on a few of our cylinder Mac Pros. So far, I've been pretty impressed. I used the following page to get things up and running:

https://egpu.io/setup-guide-external-graphics-card-mac/

Even with the bottleneck of the USB 3>Thunderbolt 2 on the older machines, everything works nicely. The only drawback so far has been that there can be a bit of a delay waiting for all the geometry and textures to load onto the card's VRAM when first viewing the scene. Once it's all on the card, though, it's shweet!

I works with Macbook Pro 13" and 15" 2016. You may need to update MacOs to the latest version because they come with a special os build from factory and Nvidia Drivers doesn't work with that build.
