Octane Crashing Computer During Render

Hi,
I am on:
OSX Sierra 10.12.5
Using 3 GPUs: x2 GTX 1080 Ti, 1 GTX 1070
64 GB RAM
Nvidia Web Driver: 378.05.05.15f01
Octane C4D version 3 (live viewer shows 3.06.2 in C4D so assuming its v3.06.2)
Not seeing anything in the bugreports folder, unable to capture a console or octane log output due to the freeze and subsequent crash

I'm experiencing a strange bug. I recently switched from Windows to Mac and am using Octane on OSX for the first time. When working in C4D and rendering, Octane is quite frequently causing my entire system to crash.

So far this has happened 4 times, it seems to be caused by mainly the live viewer. On 3/4 crashes, I was scrubbing through the c4d timeline with the live viewer open, on the fourth crash, I had the live viewer open and then rendered to the picture viewer.

What happens is that out of no where, the system will freeze for about half a second, and then the entire machine goes out (screen goes black, and the OS takes me directly to the Mac log in screen - this is whats really weird, as it seems like kind of a half restart, not a full restart, in that the system doesn't fully reboot like when I do an intentional restart)

I initially assumed this was an issue with my machine, but it is only happening with octane during rendering, and each time the system has crashed its been while I had the live viewer open / was working in the live viewer (the combination of scrubbing through a c4d animation and having the live viewer open has been the fastest way to reproduce the crash)

I've also monitored my systems hardware to see if this might be a temperature / cooling issue, but temps have been low during all of these crashes, and again, no crash occurs when I've done long / intense renders to the picture viewer.

Any help would be hugely appreciated as this is a big blocker to using Octane and working currently

Sounds like a stability issue rather than a bug for renderer. It may stress your system on heavy scenes. Try with single gpu for same operations.

Thanks for the quick response! I will certainly try that. Should I avoid using the same GPU to render that I am using for my display?

When these crashes occurred I was using all 3 GPUs at full load. However, the scene in which these crashes occurred with was very light: one piece of animated geometry, default diffuse shaders, 500 samples, no lights. I've rendered incredibly complex Beeple scenes as benchmarks over 8-9 hour durations to the picture viewer with all 3 GPUs at full load on the same machine without seeing any sort of bugs / freezes / crashes, which is why I was confused

Hi again – sorry to bother, I'm still getting these crashes , but only when using the live viewer. They are happening even on scenes with minor loads, and single GPU (also avoiding using my display GPU for rendering)

Also monitoring system temps and GPU temps are normal (never above 60-65 C). Would greatly appreciate any help / insights..

Do you have bugreports?
Are these reproductable on spesific steps or scenes?
