Any reason NOT to use Ryzen?

Is there any fatal reason(s) why an AMD Ryzen system and motherboard using NVIDA GPUs (1080 Ti & 780) would be a bad idea for Octane?

I am ready to do a new build and considering many options. In addition to Octane I also want a strong system for 4k video editing and After Effects compositing.

The only thing I notice after a cursory search on NewEgg is that the AMD oriented motherboards seem to have fewer PCI express slots, can’t house as many GPU’s, and run them at slower lanes when more than one is in use compared to some more expensive offerings for intel boards.

The ASUS Rog STRIX X370-F appears to be capable of holding 3 GPUS, which is the max I would be using.

If sticking with Intel, I am considering a much more expensive build with the new i9-7900X Skylake-X processor and one of the new x299 motherboards:

Intel Core i9-7900X Skylake-X 10-Core 3.3 GHz

ASUS Prime X299-Deluxe

or
ASRock Fatal1ty Gaming X299

AMD Threadripper will come out soon, 16 cores and 64 PCIE lanes. And there will be motherboards with 4 pcie slots.
I would go with that if I were you :)

That's a good reason! Thanks.
