Convert 1 standalone license to 2 headless render licenses?

Hi,

If I purchase a standalone license now will I be able to convert it into say two headless render licenses when they are available?. Or whatever you set the conversion ratio you set.

I have one standalone license now. I am on a dealine and renders are slow. I tried using the ORC. But some of my meshes are crashing upon upload. My only option to speed the renders is to add another computer which has a graphics card to speed things up.

Thanks,

Can the Octane team please advise on this?

Folks, just scroll through the forum and you will see many people simply building 4 or 7 graphic card computers to avoid a new license cost. I don't have the money to build anything like that but your business model clearly is not serving your interests instead it is helping drive up sales for hardware manufacturers.

If a fairly priced headless license were made available I am sure more people would just add another old computer like me to speed up their renders instead of investing into a whole new computer to support more cards.

I understand you folks are doing a lot, and will soon make available a headless license. But my deadline does not work with your timeline. Can I buy one standalone license now to add a render slave and will you exchange it for say two headless licenses when you release it?

Thanks,

Hi azims, the Octane team is not working at weekends.
You have to wait until Monday, I fear.

Cheers, mib

Headless rendering needs to first get implemented and fully tested first (likely no sooner than 3.08) before we can get into these specifics.

Supporting one license across more than one machine (headless rendered or otherwise) is a separate issue with its own development and support issues and changes that we are concurrently exploring.

We are planning to first test and validate how this could be practically supported, initially via the pro sub coming later this year - see notes + GTC17 slide #38: https://www.facebook.com/groups/OctaneR ... 643308749/

Hi,

Thanks for your response. I have a follow up question. Which flavor of octane will be included with Unity? Is it the 2 gpu limit no network rendering flavor or the 20 gpu network rendering allowed flavor?

Thanks

Min/Max multi-GPU limit is dynamically set up by Unity Editor when Octane loads, based on your Octane licence (free users default to min). Unlike our other DCC integrations, there is no actual plug-in per se, so OR licence and versions etc. can be transparently handed all inside Unity Editor without having to install or download anything else or go to asset store.
