Particles Systems & Volumes

Can't seem to get the desired results with a simple cloud formation. The emitter is unchecked, but renders out as the emitter shape only. There's no documentation on this. Alternatively flip to cycles, and there's no problems. Emitter 'box' doesn't display and particles display properly.

Try to import the file into Octane Stand-alone. If you still can't get it to work, you're most likely out of luck. I gave up months ago trying to get Octane to do anything more than basic materials. Which means I haven't used it to do any projects send Nov. 2016. Once in a while I stick my head in the forum to see if any new releases have arrived which will put a smile on my face, but so far nothing. I use cycles pretty much for everything now because its stable and does the job. Any performance I would have gained with Octane is mute because it doesn't handle anything fun like particles, volumetrics, or motion blur properly. I don't think I'll be paying for any future upgrades based on the way the previous releases have not lived up the hype. You know the old saying "If its too good to be true, its not".

Best of luck.

PS - Not a slam on the new developer, he's been very responsive and consistent with improvements. I just think there some strange office politics going on behind the scenes that make me leery.

I'm learning it's a tool among many tools. But in your case, can you composite your particles from another render into your octane scene?

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm SOL for the moment it seems. I'll have to get creative with a workaround, maybe even drop the realism. I don't have access to other 3D software except sketchup pro, and its twice as useless for particle effects!

From another post there's a way to achieve nice smoke, but that's not exactly a fantastic solution for mostly static cloud formations.

Figured it out. I'll throw together a quick clip a little later if anyone is interested.

Do tell how! Did you use Sketchup for this cloud ?!?
