Hello Guys?

Do you plan making plugins for Blender ?

Already is :)

Octane takes a Wavefront format (.obj), which Blender by default includes.

Indeed, exporting from Blender in obj format including materials and maps, you'll get all you need. Some of the images in the gallery have been made based on Blender scenes.

integration will be through renderman compliant import and exporters like RIB Mosaic.

in order to use octane interactively it's meant to be a standalone UI application,
it's not tied to any specific 3d app as we don't want to limit use of octane to just 1 app at this moment.

i'm really excited about this new project, but the import-expport feature seems greatly underestimated to me.

obj doesn't export cameras, lights and more important instances (without instances a render engine is pretty useless as a professional tool, good only for testing).

renderman exporters are currently few and not for all major softwares.

an exchange format like collada would be greatly appreciated.

currently i'm rendering on maxwell and i have to export from blender, import in 3dtudio max and then export to maxwell just to have instances working.
that's an enormous waste of time and octane render seems to go the same way.

@jazzroy : Radiance has several ideas to circumvent the problems you mentioned when blenger to obj export is used and to reduce the effort to include them in octane, so just be patient, more information about that will be availabe later on.

thanks for the info enrico,
but i think it must be solved for all softwares, not just a blender-related solution.

The solutions that Radiance is working on will not be Blender specific and will work with any software.

that's nice, and I've also seen .dae import planned for version 1.0.

thanks for the info.
