Does anyone have any insight onto this motherboard and the various setups you could employ to run a gpu / simulation workstation. I think Ideal would be a custom water-cooled loop and 7x single slot gpus.

Supposedly this has 80 pcie 3.0 lanes when you have both chips running.

My feeling is you could start this system off in the middle of the road and upgrade it as time goes on.

Do 2011-3 sockets have some runway left in them?

Thanks for any insight.

I am using in octane / houdini / cinema 4d / maya / adobe CC

That MB you linked has only 6 PCI-E slots so you can't do 7 GPUs watercooled on it.
You need model called ASUS Z10PE-D8 (that one has 8 RAM slots but 7 PCI-E).

I have ASUS Z10PE-D8 and i use 4 GPUS, when i pluged in 5th GPU system become laggy and after 20 minutes i was getting BSOD. Granted i was using 1x extender cables so that might be part of problem but i don't have 7 single slot GPUs to test that.
