Using Distance to Camera to Enable Displacement - Possible?

Would it be possible to somehow only have displacement engaged when an area of an object is close to the camera?
Thoughts?

Sorry, I can't figure how to make this with the available Octane nodes. The displacement amount is a fixed value for the whole object surface, and the displacement texture map can't be multiplied or processed in any way.
Thanks,

Yea I wasn't able to think of a way either...espeically surfaced based rather than object based. But thought I'd ask.
Thing is...if I use displacement for grass on my exterior scenes the samples per second come way down if it covers my entire site...but of course you can't tell the difference between 3D grass and regular texture from say 50 feet away
Anyway, thanks for looking! anyone else with some thoughts? I dont' like instances for this because it doesn't do well with odd shaped parking lots etc... grass grows outside it's bounds unless you spread individual blades around...and then it's hard to get good coverage. This displacement is nice...but kills the times
