Motion blur ... again :)

Hi Simon,

Well, for me, motion blur never worked in Carrara, but right now, I really need it :)

I setup some different alembic files. The render target named "Render Target" is the Carrara Alembic output. Here, it vigorously jumps up and down. Both other render targets don't do this. So, might there be a problem with the Alembic export?

Hi,

Just for your opinion. If I create an object without rotating it (e.g. 90°) and then let it spin, no MB occurs. The object just gets smaller as described here: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=54884&start=10

Best wishes,
Thomas

Hi,

Ok, just realized that ABC files store some kind of motion data. Perhaps that's the problem!?

I also realized that I can replace the existing ABC file - created by Carrara OR Viewport - with another ABC file or even modify this ABC file (created by Carrara) in e.g. Houdini. Only problem is that I cannot apply a shader in OR Viewport once modified with Houdini. Is there any workaround, so I can apply a shader to a newly created ABC file?

Best wishes,
Thomas

I might be able to add a reload button somewhere that will allow you to replace and reload the alembic file from disk. Is that what you had in mind?

Hi Simon,

What I have in mind is a working motion blur, but it seems to be quite difficult. So, I need to bring in an ABC file from another app. Only problem is that there is no possibility for me to apply a shader to a newly created ABC file (e.g. created in Houdini). So, all I need is something where I can apply a shader to a newly created ABC file.

Best wishes,
Thomas

To support an Alembic file in Carrara where you can define your own shaders I need to create a new primitive. That is not trivial and will take some time to do.

Hi,

Yes, I'm not in the game and don't know what path to go. Just some thoughts:
a) Applying a shader to a material via the Octane Live DB. (Then modify it in Carrara itself.)
b) Using the Node Editor (now for shaders only) to add/modify Alembic and Shader nodes.

Right now, I'm using the ORBX export to mix Carrara and Alembic files. It's a somewhat tedious work but at least it works.

Best wishes,
Thomas
