Ray Epsilon ?

Hi,
What is ray epsilon doing in these 2 renders ? I am experimenting with DL (GI_Diffuse) and have spec detph 12 and glossy depth 4 setup.
*Attached. Is the ray epsilon changing the IOR ?
settings: rayepsilon 0.001 and 0.1 respectively
