Hi,

I'm not sure where to post or ask this. I already have both the standalone and sketchup-plugin single user licenses installed on my desktop computer. I want to know if i need to purchase both again to install it on my laptop as well? Or am i allowed to only purchase the sketchup-plugin to use it on my laptop.

Hi,

You can deactivate both on the PC, and activate on the laptop.. so you need one licence of standalone and plugin,
when you just want to switch working from one machine to the other.

(I am using ArchiCAD plugin, but this is how it works for all plugins if I am correct)

If you want to use the other machine as a renderslave.. (like working in your laptop and you want your pC to render as extra power.. then you need an extra standalone licence, not an extra plugin), but that smees not to be your question.

I thought so yes, but that would mean i have to deactivate and activate it on a daily basis which is what i'm trying to avoid. I'm on the road a lot and would like to be able to use it on my laptop as well for drafts. So when i get home at night most of the work is done allready.

The reason why i'm asking is because at the purchase plug-in page it says that i need a licensed copy of the standalone as well. But not sure if you need a standalone copy with each copy of the plug-in.

Hi,

To work with your plugin the standalone must be working on that same machine.
So if you do want to activate and deactivate.. then yes you should buy a second of each...
I think that would be a waste of money.. why do you not try to acticvate and deactivate.. and maybe you do not find such a hazzle.

yes, you always need both the licenses if you want to execute OctaneRender on a different machine at the same time.
Anyway, with v3, deactivating means cloasing the application on your office pc to free up the license, without waiting any time, the license can be activated on a different machine. This means that you can use Teamviewer to deactivate your license remotely, if you forgot to close the host application.

This is exactly what i thought would happen the first time, but closing the programs doesn't release the license. (My Desktop is shutdown during the day) And when I try to log in with my laptop then it tells me I have to deactivate it the desktop first.
And also i'm not using offline authentication either, I have to connect to the internet everytime i want to use it as well otherwise it doesnt work.

so, I guess that you are not connected to internet when you close Sketchup, correct?
If yes, the system cannot see that you have closed the plugin, and the license stay active

Lol, i am connected to the internet permanently even when i close sketchup, I have a 10Mbps line which isnt the fastest so not sure if that could then be why.
I've decided to get another copy as well later, untill then i'll just make use of teamviewer.....lol
