Hi,

Can someone point me to documentation on the best hardware configuration for Octane. My main question is whether or not Octane runs better with HIGHT core CPU count or LOWER core CPU count with higher GHZ. I know this is GPU renderer, but the CPU does still matter. I'm just trying to the most out of Octane.

Has anyone purchased a good GPU rig that can hold more that 4 full size GPUs with Geforce cards? It seems as though you can either get another computer that seem to max out at 4 GPUs or you can get a cluster(nvidia VCA) which only support Quadro cards(way out of my price range).

Thank you in advance!

Octane doesn't use the cpu for much after the scene is loaded, but your nvidia driver will. I think a safe rule of thumb is two cpu cores for each gpu. That way you have lots of overhead for growth and system activity shouldn't choke I/O to the gpus.

The biggest factor is your budget. If you're strapped for cash, you'll live a longer happier life if you get one super-awesome gpu than trying to do anything with dual or more gpus. That'll drive cpu cost down as well, since you won't need as many resources to drive a single gpu.

Are you building a machine from scratch? How long do you intend for this machine to be left turned on, and will it be used for anything other than Octane?
