3ds Max Camera

Hi.
Octane is impressive as far as I could test it (like most of us really). The demo works fine on my Nvidia Geforce 8800GT so good in fact that
I'm rushing out to buy a GT250/260 to improve render time that judging from the test demo is already 'a w e s o m e'.
But I understand that at the moment the camera export from 3dsmax is no supported? I'm sorry this question has been probably submitted already, I did my best
to search through the forum.
My question is: I would love to test a couple of scenes out of my library already done using Vray, I already tried to export using the settings found here, but on import of the obj file the camera is pratically and totally out of range and materials are almost not there at all, what about material exporting in general? I understand this is still a beta demo but I saw in the gallery some impressive pictures with excellent use of the textures applied.
Most of my work is based on chrome and porcelain mat, what tip could you give to me in order to export it properly? should I leave behind Vray materials? Sorry is a noob question
thanks

You can't currently export camera settings, but come the next release I do believe you can through FBX or Collada, regarding the max export settings, I have some that have been sent to me that I shall get uploaded into the export settings thread in the resources forum (It is a sticky, should be easy to find).

Thanks! It's good news then, I think I found the Max export settings (unless different) I'm downloading Collada for Max right now to trying to export my little scene properly though I'm an heavy Rhino user and can't wait to test a scene directly from Rhino, it's all about materials and lights of course, I'll wait for some docs or share settings to appear.
It's all about lights and materials...

Hi, I am a Blender user and I must say that the ability of exporting the camera, or at least its coordinates, direction and settings to Octane would be really a great help for compositing. I'd like to be able to composite some scene parts rendered with Octane with an other one rendered in Blender, and being able to use the same camera location and settings is important.

I agree, after that I test the demo I just can't wait ot have a decent importer (Rhino OBJ export does crash Octane) at least the camera, another similar out there has no demo so far and I know that the price would not be the same (ARION) but I hope that the Octane developers will pay attention to what happen on that side of the river, this is because many like me does use 3dmax to compose the image and apply materials and lights, so far I was not able to export any simple model with textures in order to render a test with Octane....anyone?

Well you could try going through Blender, as its free and supports tons of import/export features. It looks like the Collada import wont be done until the next release, or the one after that. I believe Radiance said RIB support will be in the v1 release though, so you do have that option as well, and most apps should have an RIB exporter somewhere.

Check
http://www.refractivesoftware.com/forum ... f=21&t=362 and you will be able to import 3ds max without a problem... I am trying this stuff with a geforce 220 and it is hmmmm....
I have encountered sudden shutdowns when loading some specific hdri's...

Thanks, I already had a check to that thread but there is no camera export or import from Octane import dialog, BUT at least I found why I had no materials (textures) exported, is because my scene are set with Vray 1.5 which is not supported by the OBJ export plugin (shame on autodesk to use a free OBJ plugin for OBJ export, very lazy I say..), anyway for those who is actually wondering how to proper export textures out of a vray scene, simply convert all the materials back to standard, there is a good plugin which is free and works like a charm to do this here:
http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scrip ... erter-v2-5
and then export, now I'm an happy camper and only need to check to glossy and some few not yet properly exported standard ones...

It happened to me as well, but I think that it is mainly because of the heavy weight of some HDR images, pushing the video memory to its limits (511 MB available on my 8800 GTS 512).
