Little green "MIX" label missing

Hey guys,
when you create a mix material in c4d it usually gives you this little green "MIX" label in the preview which i find quite usfull.
Unfortunately once in a while they disappear - i managed to get them back by klicking "render all materials" which worked but
when i used this command today it made the lables disappear again and i can`t seem to get them back by hitting the button once again.
Does anyone know how to get them to stay?
I know this is a somewhat minor issue but it keeps bugging me
