Hi guys,
Can anyone tell me where to find documentation on the Scatter Object?
I'm trying to find info on best use practices and why I might choose to use a Scatter instead of using a Cloner.

Thanks!
Ian

I'd like to know, too. It looks like they've basically not updated the manual. The help/manual site is pretty messy, too. Difficult to find anything.

Yes i'm not well on writing manuals and have not much time. Some guy will re-organise the C4D manual. What you can't find in manual for example?
It's very same on usage as cloner. But not for making mograph animations. It's for distributing the objects over sources and works much faster/lighter against cloner.

IMO the C4D Manual desperately needs updating. It’s very outdated and shows a lack of support. Not a dig at aoktar, you are awesome.

On a positive note - The scatter object is one of the features in Octane that blew me away. You can throw an obscene amount of clones in here that would normally crash C4D, if using the cloner.
Throw some noise in the shader and get really cool random stuff happening, amazing!
There is a Twitch cast on the Learnsquared channel with Ash Thorp & Beeple. This is where I found out about the scatter object.

I have been using the scatter tool for a while.

Here is an example of a scene I worked on for a bit. Nothing special, just messing around.

However, I am wondering if anyone here knows how to scatter objects along slopes of other objects and also, how to align objects to point straight up.
As you can see in the image, many of the trees are placed in unusual ways along the slopes of the terrain.

By the way, there are about 400,000 trees on this object, and Octane handled it pretty well. Once I use 2 different tree objects though, C4D crashes.

In any case, what I mean by trees being placed on slopes, I just mean constraining them to a certain degree, so they aren't being scattered everywhere on the surface.

To align objects to point straight up change "Normal Align" to 0.
You can control slope scattering changing min/max sliders in "Normal Threshold".

I could have sworn that was the first thing I tried with no result. This month has been a bit of a confusing mess for me. XD

I'll try this. Thank you, unsergio.

There's still no info in the manual about this
