CUDA error 2 on device 0

Tonight I wanted to try out Octane render so I installed the latest demo on my
2012 Macbook Pro Retina
2,3 GHz Intel Core i7
8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB
I started with a tutorial from Greyscalegorilla but got an error when trying out Octane. Then tried to render a basic cube on a new project and the same error popped up in the log
could not pick materials, because the geometry has changed and rendering is paused

Export materials time= 21.101 ms
Collect objects time= 13.816 ms
Mesh creation time = 16.025 ms.

VRAM used/free/max:4Kb/89Mb/1023Mb
Out-of-core used:0Kb total used RAM:6.483Gb
Total export Time = 81.618 ms

VRAM used/free/max:4Kb/89Mb/1023Mb
Free VRAM is too low!
Try to decrease polygon counts and use out-of-core for textures.
Use 'render instances' when it's possible.'
As you can see I've played with the setting a bit to try and increase the memory.
Any help on this error?
there were also Vram memory issues but this seems more important seeing that it's a basic cube on an empty project
