Specular problem

Hey there,

I'm trying to create a simple chrome like material using a Glossy material. Yet I can't get it to be mirror like. I've downloaded from Material DB a Titanium and copied the settings, and still... nothing. I even unchecked everything, and it's like broken.

Any ideas? I'm feeling really dumb... I've looked online and nothing.... I'm feeling it's something simple...

Index. It's the index of refraction AND reflection ;)

Keep playing around. Push the buttons. Turn the knobs. You can't break anything. Have fun!
Check the manuals too. Why not.

It's weird, because I even bought a course on Octane to learn a bit quicker, and even there, it seems to get mirror like - mine... nope....

Anyways, guess I will try more... the index of refraction of the other material is 1 oddly, I disabled it too.... this is what I find weird/strange. I've matched the settings and nothing. I just can't make my own "chrome" like material.

There's not really a need to disable any settings especially the ones that you want to actually adjust. Makes sense, right? And yeah index=1 is what you need. It disables the Fresnel effect. ;)

Also, tutorials are a waste of money. I've never seen a good Octane tutorial EVER. Including the ones in the manuals section. It's like watching a tutorial on how to walk or ride a bike. Pointless. Pure logic and common sense is all you need.

If you want to be ahead of 95% of C4DOctane users, just learn the Octane Render first ( misleadingly named Standalone ). And checkout "Standalone" topics. IMHO the biggest mistake that beginners are making is just focusing on the plugin. The plugin is just a different user interface for Octane Render and it can be confusing sometimes because of the C4D interface limitations that it has to deal with.

I bought c4d plugin when it was still in beta and there was no Mac version then so I couldn't even use it. That's before there were ANY tutorials for it and by the time people started making them I already had finished client projects. That's because I learned the Octane Render first. Every plugin feature just made much more sense after that and I could clearly see the difference between the C4D interface and actual Octane Render features. Today I can also see A LOT of the advantages of the plugin too.

Thanks! I'll follow your suggestions!

Gonna get my hands dirty, and like you said, nothing will explode ;) Worst thing I've seen from Octane/C4D is the plugin fails and closes down hahaha... Just have to learn to press save more often!

Cheers,

Vadim

Don't know it's respect or not to our work but don't worry to play with any parameters. Just make a new scene and test it. I'm trying to keep it simple as much as possible.
