Maya plugin / Insufficient resources

Hi.
After waiting almost six months to have a version of the plugin 3.0, there are few resources and clarifications about the use of it.

While in development for other applications (Houdini, Cinema, Max, etc) there are manuals and resources very complete, in Maya there is only one note about its use ... "The key to learning OctaneRender is a solid understanding of the concepts in the SE…”

I think most of the users of the plugin for Maya, use it alone, without going through the SE version. That's one of the advantages of having an "integrated" plugin. In addition there are certain unique characteristics of each of the softwares that are not always clear. In my case, I am a user of octane since the beta version and I know the SE, but since there is an integrated plugin I have stopped using the SE, since there was a clear manual for version 2.0 in Maya. Now working with the SE is an investment of time and resources that I do not have.

The new functions of version 3.0 are really interesting, especially when it comes to working with fluids, but the tests I've done do not give me the expected results. There are several posts that make me think that I'm not the only one who has problems getting good results.

Hi Jim,

Also I find a issue with the scale on Fluid (and other scales options) . If my scene in additional tab "the scale" are set "1" is fine I get really good results now if I change my scene size to 0.01 based on "cm" on Maya scale (Pretty standard in the industry!) I have weird results all scales doesn't work so well in the volume node, scatter node, displacement and etc... The scale option are not translate when this settings are changed , The render they are never the same, I specting changes but not a huge change specially on the fluids.

For me I have a scene with any fluid set with a size of 2 meters they are really hard to make work aswell look the same. I will attach a scene here Please takea look if you don't mind.

Just change the main scale "1 to 0.01" and you will see the problem then try to match the result is really hard to get the same look. The correct I think if I multiply the value by 10 should show the same result isn't?, please some help would be great.

Best,
Jo
Hi Jim,

I check this version and still missing the baking options? Is no way to setup the "Baking group ID". On the mesh at "Octane attributes", aswell the camera options seams broked. just placed but renders black.

I think the export fixes would be great to.

And the scene Scale options for the fluids I send you a scene before to test so we can get the right look for the fluids, we can set the looks cause of the scale gave us issues.

Hope we can get things on the right track, thanks Guys.

It is also important to know the characteristics that will support the plugin in the future, especially those that limit the work in some areas. For example, while in Houdini or Cinema the plugin supports particles, in Maya the only way to do it is with instances (something that is not viable when working with a large amount of them). It would be incredible if it could have the same features as Arnold or Redshift, which not only support particles, but also xgen.

In conclusion I believe that Octane is now one of the best render engines and I would always bet on it, but that a little more help to the users of maya would be appreciated

Sorry for my limited english
