custom ior values with curves.

Hey guys,

Iam pretty new to Octane, so far so good but now i would like to use my Vray and Arnold workflow in Octane to create more complex materials.

There are two things that i stumble upon and they are basically the same problem.

1. I want to create custom dielectic fresnels. What i tryed it a glossy index of 1 to make it a 100% mirror materials. Then i would like to add a fresnel shader to the specular weight so i can control the amount of reflection depending by the angle, in vray and arnold you can do this with a curve but octane is not responding on this workflow so i guess i miss something.

2. I also want to control the roughness by angle with the same setup as above, i would like to archieve a blurry surface on the front of a sphere for example and sharp reflections on the edge. I can add the fresnel to this and then invert it and it works but after that i cant control it with the ramp shader in c4d.

People that did the Grant warwick course probably understand what i mean.

Can somebody help me out, thanks!

Do you need a dielectric material with refraction, or only reflection?

For materials with refraction you need the specular material, which gives only limited amount of control over reflectivity. You can decrease the reflection by using a value less than 1.0 in the reflection input. It is possible to use an arbitrary falloff curve depending on the incident angle as described in this thread.

The roughness input should also allow textures so you can use a similar setup.
