Update Octane maps after applying new DAZ material?

Hi,
I'm exploring the demo - what a great looking plugin so far! I was wondering if the following would be possible:
1. Apply Octane materials to a figure
2. Apply a "vanilla" DAZ Iray preset to the figure (e.g., one from a vendor)
3. Have Octane update only the maps without having to re-assign or re-convert the shaders
At the moment, whenever I apply a new DAZ material preset to the figure, Octane moves the prior Octane shaders to the "Unused" bucket. I was hoping I could get it to ignore the shader change unless I manually update it, and to be able to manually update only the image maps or colors. I believe the Poser plugin had some similar functionality?
I suspect templates are the answer, but I don't know. What are templates, exactly, can anyone give me an exact, clear definition?
