Update Octane maps after applying new DAZ material?

Hi,

I'm exploring the demo - what a great looking plugin so far! I was wondering if the following would be possible:

1. Apply Octane materials to a figure
2. Apply a "vanilla" DAZ Iray preset to the figure (e.g., one from a vendor)
3. Have Octane update only the maps without having to re-assign or re-convert the shaders

At the moment, whenever I apply a new DAZ material preset to the figure, Octane moves the prior Octane shaders to the "Unused" bucket. I was hoping I could get it to ignore the shader change unless I manually update it, and to be able to manually update only the image maps or colors. I believe the Poser plugin had some similar functionality?

I suspect templates are the answer, but I don't know. What are templates, exactly, can anyone give me an exact, clear definition?

Hi, Yes, templates are the answer. You apply the IRay material, then apply your template, which will pick up the IRay material texturemaps and place them into your Octane material.

Thanks, Paul - do you mean that, whenever I apply a new DAZ material, I should then follow that by re-applying an Octane template material?

Is it not possible to save Octane materials to a DUF preset with the demo version?

Only if you want to replace the default DAZ Material conversion to your own custom material (template).

Yes, they should be saved. Make sure you have Preferences->"Load OctaneRender Materials from .duf user presets" ticked, otherwise the Octane materials are not loaded when you load the .duf.
