Cannot get fog to work

I may be doing something wrong but been messing with fog in Octane daylight for hours..Not sure if I'm doing this right so I'm popping up my file if anyone would be so kind to just take a look.
I did think that this would be a scale thing as my previous tests engulfed the entire scene and I've played about with the sliders, so I created a scene a few kilometres big thinking the phase value would be a lot less sensitive to a larger scene. Seems to treat it the same and covers my whole image in fog. I believe in Octane 3 you don't have to use a scattering medium you can just add it to the daylight via the fog button, but correct me if I'm wrong.
Heres the best test result so far using a gaussian spectrum...Im getting this wierd triangulation in the mesh also... I literally just want everything at the foreground to be clear and mountains at the back fading out into the atmosphere, so basically the sphere furthest away is almost impossible to make out.
Many thanks.
