quote from techspot

http://www.techspot.com/news/42562-dual ... later.html

"Word on the street now is Nvidia will unveil the dual-GPU GeForce GTX 590 by the end of next month. The GeForce GTX 590 is expected to pack two GF110 graphics processors for a total of 1024 CUDA cores, 3027MB of GDDR5 memory, dual 384-bit memory buses, 128 texture units, and 96 ROPs. These specifications would effectively double down on Nvidia's single-GF110 GeForce GTX 580."

Ok octaneers time to start Drooling and saving!

The issue i can see here is how will Octane recognise this card when it is plugged in your motherboard.Possibly as 2 x gtx 580's maybe ?

One thing is for certain:

1no Asus or Gigabyte 890FX motherboard with 4 of these plugged in would create a 4000 cude core system = Instant render farm

It would probably need around 2 x 1000watt power supplies to operate 1 per pair of cards :o

and cost rather a lot of money

Oh and would probably need a central water cooled system linked to a Car radiator and fan to operate.

WOW 8-)
That is amazing, these cards are coming out so quickly I cannot keep up.

I can imagine though that this card is going to come with one huge price, I am still going to think about getting 2x GTX570 with 1.28GB on each card.
I priced it on newegg for $354, so for both it will be $708. Now these 2 cards will have a combined total of 880 cores.
This is amazing and the price is just as good.

It is really difficult to choose what to get and when to get it!

Thanks for the info though, good to keep updated with all this.

nah, i think that 3gb its a very low amount (1.5gb per GPU) .

i rather buy 3 580gtx 3gb, but thats just me

Not sure how Octane will work with the memory. There is 3gb on board. Will octane manage to load a 3gb image as a pool image to be worked on by the 2 GPU's or will it only see 2 sets of 1.5Gb and load it twice into the cards memory to be worked on by both GPU's.

It does seem suspicious that CUDA 4.0 has been released around the same time as these cards are due and that CUDA 4 can use pooled memory.

Abstrax was talking about massive latency issues and not being practical using this facility on 2 seperate cards. However this being just one card may negate that issue. Not sure,it's just conjecture on my part at this stage.

It's going to need a well healed tester, once this card is released to try it out. ;)

Hi octane probably will not work with both cores cos as it hapens in the 290 the cores might be sli hardware connected.
Me going for the 580 3gb too, best option!
cheers

oohh..
a direct response to AMD 6990...
but only 3GB? that gives only 1.5gb effiective...
AMD 6990 has 4GB.. its a let down..

This Frankenstein thing is probably not suitable for Octane. Those who have the money, would be better off with 2x 580 3GB
