gtx1080 much slower than my gtx670...?

i have just purchased a EVGA GTX 1080 ftw 8gb, and it is very slow when rendering in Octane Render Blender.

I have rendered the exact same scene in Blender Octane Edition_11.1_2.78 (with newest server), with my EVGA "Superclocked" GTX 670 4GB and the new EVGA GTX 1080 FTW 8gb.

The GTX 670 was way faster, i stopped the 1080 before it was finish, so i dont know... maybe the 1080 was a better render, but i was only noticing the speed.

But am i wrong for hoping that the 1080 should be faster than 670?

May be there is something i am not aware of a driver or some setting in Blender, i have installed Nvidia driver: 375.70-desktop-win10-64bit-international-whql.

When i opened Octane 3, it said no Cudas...?!
EDIT: i have updated Octane render standalone to 3.04, and now my gpu/cuda is showing :-)

EDIT EDIT: ok, i have tested some more, 1080 is faster than 670 but not that much ;-) i was hoping for more
:-)

Hi, 1080 should be more than double as fast as 670.
May you check same scene in Blender and Standalone with export to .orbx.

https://docs.otoy.com/#60ORBX%20and%20Alembic%20Export

For a static scene set start/end frame to 1.

Cheers, mib

Thank you, i didnt know that trick(exporting to standalone)

It uses the same amount of time in standalone as in Blender.

I feel for you brother. I had the same thing happen. I spent nearly 2 years collecting (4) GTX-690's with liquid cooling, everything seemed fine...but I was in the position to upgrade to 4 gtx-980's (ti) thinking I'd knock it out of the park. Instead I got the exact same performance (albeit way less heat and power consumption). According to the specs I should have had 30% improvement. Huge waste of money. To add insult to injury, they swindled me with the "rebate" and would only honor one so I ended up paying about $200 more than expected AND they charged me for shipping on each unit but sent them all in one box...not to happy with EVGA sales tactics, nor with the B.S. hype about these products.

It seems everyone over promises and under delivers in this industry.

Are you using portals? There was an issue with portals that slowed the render down quite a lot. This has been fixed in the latest standalone version, but hasn't been moved to the Blender plugin yet.

Any updates on that issue? I am thinking of getting a couple of 1070 myself
