Copying Nodes

Hi guys,

I've run into a problem. And if I can solve it, it will save me a lot of time. While modelling I applied different materials to polygon groups (which wereUVed seperately of each others, causing overlapping UVs). Using the octane override I built one base material which I then copied to all other materials. Now, I want to apply some maps and masks to the individual materials, but every time I add one, it gets added to all other materials too. Is there a way to unlink them again?
Cheers!

Hi - I an unsure exactly what you are trying to do here. Are you able to provide a sample file which shows the issue pls?

Thanks

Paul

Hi Paul, I have already solved it. I am basically re-using parts of my nodes to keep materials uniform throughout my scene. But I use them in specific areas so I can apply decals (which for instance come with their own normal maps). Now instead of copying everything and deleting nodes (which resulted in nodes in other materials to disappear as well), I copy the elements and create a new material node in each material that I need to rebuild to add my decals. It requires a little more planning, but it also helps that when I edit a node in one material, it makes changes across the board.

I am just wondering how to unlink a node from the rest without having to rebuild parts. 'Linked' nodes display 3 dots under the node, local ones don't. If that makes it any clearer). You can see it in the next image:

I never knew the "..." meant the node was in multiple workspaces - very handy to know - thank you.

To unlink a node, right click it and "Remove Node(s)". That will remove the node from the current workspace, but not the other workspaces it is in. Then Add a new node with the unique RGB Color, texture, etc for that Octane Override and connect it to whatever pin the removed node was connected to.
