V3 Licensing for multiple OS installations?

Here's my dilemna - I started out using Octane in conjunction with the C4D plugin on 2x GPUs and eventually upgraded to 3x GTX 780s and a Titan running on an Amfeltec GPU splitter card. Barring the occasional hiccup, this ran swimmingly under Windows 7. Now I have found myself in a position wherein I have been pushed to upgrade to Windows 10 and while I find it generally stable and like a lot of the little tweaks that MS worked in, no amount of troubleshooting will allow for compatibility with my Amfeltec setup. At best I am running 2x cards at once or else risking BSODs within minutes of booting. I have lost easily a hundred+ hours at this point trying to sort this out and have gotten nowhere so I am at a point now where I have written off even trying to make it work. I know it isn't some other hardware fault given that my configuration worked under Windows 7 (and very well may work under Linux, though I haven't tried it) and sitting on 2x unused GPUs is a terrible waste of money.
This leads me to the crux of my questions:
1. Since V3 is now node locked to a machine, I am trying to ascertain if Octane considers the machine itself (using some sort of hardware ID) the node it is locked to OR is it locked to a specific OS installation? I ask because at this point I would entertain dual booting back to Windows 7 just to get Octane firing on all cylinders again but I don't want to wander down that path unless I am sure I am not going to deal with licensing headaches.
2. Looking at the downloads section, it would seem that I am entitled to every OS flavor available (Win/Mac/Linux) but I don't know what effect swapping to say Linux (since I am already entertaining dual-booting back to W7 I guess I would be curious to see if there was any measurable difference performance-wise) would have on my licensing.
Hopefully this post is in the right place - any insight would be helpful. Thanks.
