Cards with different VRAM for network rendering?

I swapped my old 780Tis with new 1080s in my worlstation. Would like to use the 780s in a network render node.
How does Octane handle VRAM in such a setup? 8 GB VRAM <> 3 GB VRAM.
Does it work with renders that need less than 3 GB VRAM?
Thanks for advice
Ron

hi, Ron.
If You wish to use all cards (with 3GB on the render node) using network rendering feature, Your scene should be no bigger than 3GB, otherwise as far as I udnerstand render node will not kick in due to lower amount of vram.
hope that helps.
p.s. alternativelly, You can fire up render on the node that has 3GB card & enable out-of-core texture functionality to go extra mile & being able render bigger scenes (especially if they are heavy on textures).
One thing I haven't tried is how node reach if master has out-of-core textures enabled. Let me bump my friends to help answering about this =)

Hi Glimpse,
thank you for your answer. So it should be as I hoped to be - it will work with mixed VRAM.
So I can move on building that render node that gets the 780s.
Cheers

Hi Ron,
yes correct, if you create a slave with max 3GB of VRAM, you can enable 5GB of Out-of-core on the slave to match the 8GB of the Master. But you have to take care that you have less than 3 GB of VRAM for geometry, otherwise the Slave will fail. Since my Master machine is a Mac Pro with not very powerfull GPU, I always do the opposite, my Master has 4GB of VRAM and 4GB of Out-of Core, to match the Slave with 8 GB of VRAM. The most important thing is to have the same ammount of VRAM per node so you can use Out.of -core to match the machine with higher VRAM, when the difference is not too high.

Hi Beppe,
thanks for your advise - I will take care of this if the node is ready to run.
