Rhino 5 Tonemapping and Gamma.

Hi,

I'm getting up to speed on Octane for Rhino, Ive only just installed it and trying to get my head around a few things.

Regards Rhino Gamma and built in tone mapper, should this be defaulted and allow Octane to control exposure etc? obviously when rhino is set to use Octane under the renderer tab these tone mapping and Gamma adjusters will also influence the rendered image. I’d be interested in finding out more about the workflow / policy on this.

Input appreciated!

Any tonemapping done by the Rhino Render panel is /after/ the tonemapping done by the Octane Imager node settings. My general neutral settings for the Octane Imager are:

Exposure = 1
Response = Linear/OFF
Gamma = 2.2
Vignetting = 0
Saturation = 1

Thanks Paul,

So i assume it best to leave rhino well alone or there may be some compound tone mapping / exposure etc going on? when the rendering is assigned to the render tab you have access to rhinos built in Gamma correction and tone mapping if not going out as an .exr etc, ie Jpeg, could this be seen as a point to tweak the image? again just keen to get the right workflow from the get go. obviously this can be neutralized in the rhino options tab so any TM/Gamma can be handled by Octane.

Thanks for your speedy responses.

Cheers.

Yes, I think leave the Rhino gamma at 1. The only time you might need to play with that is if you have a scene in Rhino and are trying to match the gamma in Octane. In the case, you would set the Octane Gamma to the Rhino Gamma (and set the Response to Linear), and then set the Rhino Gamma to 1.
