One GPU taking a break?

Hi,
during rendering a 320 frames sequence in C4D I found that some frames took longer to render than others. So I checked the MSI afterburner tool and saw that one card took a break for a few frames but then resumed rendering. Is that usual to happen or might the card be damaged?
Thanks for any hints on this, because if it is an hardware issue I want the card to be replaced.
