Workstation Options

Hi, I'm looking to buy 2 Ocatane workstations and am not sure exactly the best way to go.

The one I looked at had 4 x TitenX cards in but was coming out at around $12,000 per workstation.

I'm curious what people think I need for a semi-decent box.

I know the rule is usually, spend more money and get more power..

Any thoughts or links?

Cheers

Phil

hi, Phil,

for ~10-11K You can build watercooled beast with 7 GPUs..

OctaneRender for now do not benefit from anything more than Quad core CPU, but 6,8-10 core might be needed for other task if You're not building SYSTEM entirelly & only for Octane.

Operating Sytem drives (nVME SSDs), Mass storage (HDDs with multiple terabytes, raid systems), amount of vram & other devices might add up to total price..but then still 12k for quad TitanX system is way too much. Quad TitanX rig cards would be 4-5k$, I'm not so sure where other 7-8k goes.. (Xeon CPUs, crazy storage.. probably..)

The best route is sit down, ask Yourself what do You need, how much money You have & only then start to cherry pick the parts You need & benefit from - this will give You the best experience & You would not end up wasting money for things You do not need =)

Thanks Glimpse, do you think I could get something in the $8k region?

Thanks

for ~$8k You can get decent workstation that would have 4GPUs (980TIs with extra cooling or TitanX if left on air), propper motherboard, at least 6core CPU (expandable to 8, 10 ..up to 20, 22core), 32-64GB of RAM (expandable to 128GB), fast nVME based boot drive 256-512GB (close to 2500 MB/sec reads 1500 writes), few Terabytes of storage in form of HDD..

It's easily doable, question what are Your other needs & then can You plug some parts Yourself? (if so, You can buy parts for the best price, put them together & You will have the best thing You can get =) $8k is really decent amount for workstation.
