Card advice for PC Build - non SLI

Hi, as long time mac user I am switching over to PC and obviously there is tons of stuff thats to learn. So far I've been able to get up to speed with everything but the graphic cards. I know the 1080X is just released, not supported from the developer, but they are working on it as I've read here somewhere.

If I have 10k to spend on a rig, would you advise to go with 4x 1080 non SLI - I am reading OR does not care if its SLI or not, it's harnessing the power of all cards regardless. This options would ensure to stay with the latest cards for two years.

Or option to go with 3 or 4 SLI/no-SLI 980X ?

It's really confusing the heck out of me. Seeing all these amazing renders on youtube done on the current card makes me think why not go with the 980x or TitanX cards.

Appreciate some pointers in this matter. I like to purchase a new rig for our office asap. I would use some ASUS or MSI motherboard. i7 10 core, 64 GB RAM, H20 Liquid cooled etc..

Thanks
David

I have the same situation.
To buy 1080 and wait or 980ti and not to wait?
I was asked to select a new X2 card in my office.
My decision is not to wait and go for 980ti
Because I'm not going to buy octane 3 to the office and i will stay with 2.06 that will not work with 1080 pascal according to what I understood
i will wait to octane 4.
peace .

After I read that OTOY is working on the CUDA 8 release that should be official coming out between now and August I will build for the company a 4 non ski 1080 GTX workstation to take full advantage of the cards. I am seeing benchmarks from other GPU renders with 4 non SLI 1080 cards and it's fast.

Can you link us to these benchmarks, please? I'm curious to know more about these builds and the kind of results people are getting from them.

I can't wait for the CUDA 8 release of Octane, my 1080 is itching to render!
