Hdri Background no GI

Is there a way I can load a HDRI for a background to use just for reflection? I want the GI and Lighting to come from the Octane sun & Sky. Seems HDRI in environmental and Octane sun texture slot overrides the Sun & Sky. It there a way to make this happen like in vray?

Do you mean just as a background image or backplate? You can use the Viewport background image for that.

Hi DonFarese,
here you can find a description on how to use 2 HDR, one for normal Environment and the other one for the Visible Environment:
https://docs.otoy.com/manuals/products/ ... ironments/
And here a brief explanation on how it works:

Sorry guys, just saw your posts, I forgot to check the "notify me when reply is posted". That should really be on by default. Thank you for the info, I'm going to look it over.
Dylansaunders - If i put it as a background in environment tab it still lights the scene, I want it to just show in the background. If I load it as a attached file under background in the configure viewport, it renders but I have no control over it's gamma and power.
bepeg4d - I think this is what I need here, thank! just trying to figure out how this would be done in 3dsmax plugin? little confusing.

3ds Max application does not imply having more than one environment map. And the plugin was developed from its very beginning to be using the standard 3ds Max environment settings. So, now I need to find a way to rework the current structure to have the second environment somewhere (without breaking the existing scenes compatibility, which already use the "singleton" environment in standard 3ds Max settings)...
I will add the "visible environment" feature in ongoing releases.

Thanks for looking into this Jimstar. This would be a really good feature to have. It would be great if the texture environment node had a on/off options for light, reflections, refraction. and maybe even a second place in the node for back plates or another HDRI with same options. A must would be to have a checkbox that says "use Octane sun/ Sky to light" so this way you can use sun/sky like I want to but use HDRI only for Back plate, reflections, and refractions. What do you think?

Here is a simple mock-up that I think would be awesome!

You need to clearly distinguish between rendering core and the plugin. The image-rendering features can only be implemented by Octane rendering core, it's not something a plugin can do.
So, always check first: if you can't achieve some kind of rendering on standalone - the plugin can't do it for you.

Okay sorry, didn't know.... I'm in no way a programmer. I just made another adjustment to another material, the diffuse material. This would make life a hundred times easier especially for vegetation. I'll post this below but should I post these in the standalone area, it's confusing because it's for 3dsmax but it needs to be made for standalone?.... I don't know.....
