Interior furniture rug/instancing test

I thought I’d try some instancing in Lightwave. The rug has over 500,000 instances, set up to deform away from the feet of the furniture automatically, so the furniture looks as though it has settled down into the rug pile. Octane 3 handled things well. I’ll try a more intensive test next time.

Another update. I have been playing around with the density of rug strands. I need to change the materials a bit so it appears a little more transparent on the end of the strand.

Beautiful rug. Especially at close-up.
How did you make the different colors/texture for the instances?

Thanks!
Colour change is controlled by an image and I have some random scale/rotate/offset applied to the strand instances to get the carpet gun look.
Setup in Lightwave.

Any chance of posting your node tree of how you setup the texture to the instances?
I can´t get around my head of how to do it...

Yep, I'll sort it out soon.

The image controls the scale. I also have an alpha image above to fade the edge down.
This was a straight forward so I didn't bother using nodes.

For color you used just a World Space projection?
