Periodic slowdowns / freezes in R17

I got a problem everytime I'm at my client's office. They use R17 (with license server) with Win7 64bit and Octane 2.24.
The client's PC is using 2x980tis but I also saw it on other workstations (1xTitanZ, the other 1xGTX770). Newest Nvidia drivers.
What happens is, sometimes the viewport gets really laggy, especially when I have to move the camera. Switching between Alt+LMB and Alt+RMB when moving the camera always results in a 2-7 seconds lag (the viewport just completely freezes and releases again). Its sometimes periodic (every 30-60 seconds) and sometimes every time I want to move the camera. It freezes as soon as I click the button to navigate (be it Alt+LMB or Alt+RMB).
it also happens on non-octane scenes. But when I open the Octane dialog and just press the PAUSE button it gets much better! So I assume it has to do with octane.
Brasco said he thinks its because the CUDA cores are still being used and are not releasing propper, because he has the same problem sometimes.
Anyone else experienced this?
I can't reproduce it on my home office workstation but the setup there is completelly different and not so server-dependant.
