Hey,

Are there any tutorials on octane scatter object?
Couldn't find anything on youtube or vimeo, even on manual for Octane which is weird or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks

I tried it out a little the other day. Seemed to work nicely and pretty quickly. I could paint different parts of a landscape to be populated with scattered objects, but it didn't seem to recognize variable density, like over a gradient. Thus a 100% area has the same amount of particles as a 50% area. So I'll continue to use X-Particles for such things I imagine, which properly puts half as many objects in a 50% area as it puts in a 100% area. I think Octane Scatter could become something pretty cool in the future.
(C4D r17, Octane 2.x I'm using.)

I couldn't find anything either, I haven't used scatter before so this was new to me and I had no idea how to use it, after a few trail and error runs I got it to work, the effector tab works pretty much how you'd expect it to. Just drop the object you want to use as your scatter object as a child of OctaneScatter object and it should work fine. I'm sure theres a way to work around that gradient issue maybe, I will take a look when I get on Cinema

There is some sample scenes to check. It's not different than cloner object for usage.

Would the scatter object be preferable to use over a cloner or does it really matter?

I'd say yes, the scatter object's performance over a cloner is huge, especially over a certain number of clones.

But how does one get control over the individual clones? I have a field of asteroids, and with the scatter object, they are identical. I tried using the shader slots in position and scale, but they seem to do virtually nothing...

It's designed to distribute over a surface. Vertexes or face area. Have not volumetric distribution.

Treat it like a Cloner and use the Mograph Effectors.
