Control surface with Null

Hi all,
Would anyone know if it's possible to control an objects surface parameters using a null?
For example, I have an object for which I want to have several variations of (different texture maps applied), and thought that instead of having a bunch of different object taking up valuable storage space I could have a single object with all the texture maps applied using an Octane gradient and then linking the 'input' of the gradient to the rotation channel of a Null, so that when I rotate the null in (for example) 15 degree increments the textures change. The setup is pretty much the same as the random colouring of Instances, but the problem I'm having at the moment is that I can't seem to find a way to get the Nulls rotational information into the input of the Gradient node (incompatible LW/Octane nodes etc.)
Would anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
